What is takes to see clearly in Johanne's view

October 26th, 2010

I met Johanne Gallagher on the first night of the W.I.N conference in Paris.  She sat across the table from me at dinner, her sparkling personality reaching out.  She beguiled us all with her story of how she, as a woman from Ireland, came to be living in Norway via Seattle.

I asked her about how she sees clearly, a topic of endless fascination and the source of inspiration for developing Life Lensesâ„¢.

Our perspective informs our actions, our beliefs, our choices.   Yet for many of us, our perspectives go unexamined, like an invisible pair of glasses we wear.

Here's Johanne's perspective on how to see clearly.  What's your perspective?  How do you see clearly?

What it take to see clearly in Oz's view

October 21st, 2010

I recently had the delightful pleasure of meeting Oz Sokoh at the W.I.N. conference in Paris.  She took part in the 'Life Lenses™; polish your perspective and gain a whole new view' workshop I facilitated there.

I was drawn to her generous smile and enthusiasm for all things.  She's an exploration geo-scientist for Shell by day and a blogger by night at kitchen butterfly (check out her bucket list).  She's the kind of person you can share both a belly laugh and a shoulder to lean on.

I'm fascinated by perspective.  How we all have a perspective but how we rarely identify how it influences, shapes and frames our world.

I'm interested in clarity, in seeing clearly.  In stepping out of our frames so we can get a better perspective.

When I asked Oz to share her thoughts on how to see clearly, here's what she said (30 seconds):

And you – what do you think it takes to see clearly?

United Change

October 15th, 2010

Change is hard.  Change is necessary.

Change can be as bumpy as the bone rattling, teeth jarring speed bumps you find on Mexican highways.  Change can be as smooth as a puddle of water frozen on a windless day.

Change is facilitated by throwing out either/or thinking.  Chucking right/wrong thinking.  Dismissing white/black thinking. Saying no way to 'no but' thinking.

Out with dichotomous thinking.  Sear separatist thinking.

Instead encourage blending thinking. Welcome 'yes and' thinking.  Embrace thinking in all colours.

United change means embracing all the colours of the Life Lenses™.  Accepting that each Life Lens™ has its pros and its cons and that while your unique combination of lenses feels right, normal and natural so do the different combination of lenses that other folks wear.

Embracing the various perspectives that Life Lensesâ„¢ bring means united change.
