People who say they sleep like a baby don’t have one

November 22nd, 2011

I passed this sign driving out to visit my brother & nephew the other day.  I laughed so hard, I turned around, drove back & took a picture.

Perspective – it’s a tricky thing.   We think our worldview is shared by everyone.  We unconsciously assume everyone looks at the world through the same frame.  We think we have perspective in spades, that we can understand what it’s like to walk in another’s shoes but can we?

To increase perspective & enhance our worldview the best we can do is:

  • know what we don’t know
  • be adventurous
  • step out of our own frame
  • enjoy the new view

Intuition’s gift and downfall

November 17th, 2011

‘The inner voice is at once our greatest danger and an indispensable help.’

Carl Jung (1875-1961), Swiss psychiatrist

Heart Life Lensesâ„¢ heed the call of their inner voice, their intuition – they listen to it loud and proud.  It’s an internal guidance system, an early warning, a leap beyond logic.

Head Life Lensesâ„¢ know that, on a bad day, that same inner voice can lead us astray and be a tenacious pit bull that won’t let go despite flying in the face of logic.

Neither is best.  Each have their benefits.

Where are you with your inner voice, your intuition?  Is it a sage guide or a fool’s folly?

A creative kid’s take on a mouth – a cool perspective

November 15th, 2011

My kid loves to draw.  He’ll often pick up a pencil & sketch.

As a result I find all sorts of interesting drawings around the house.  Like the one above.  I love how he made a mouth out of nothing.  Literally.  He ripped the paper to make the figure’s mouth.

He’s got a knack for finding a new perspective, an alternate way of looking at things.

Finding new perspectives is a game changer.  It helps see your way through otherwise unnavigable waters, turns swamps into swimming pools and tear drops to turtles.

How can you find a new perspective on an old issue?

What’s odd about these oddfellows?

November 10th, 2011

I picked up this postcard from the same-named restaurant when I was out with some good pals in Seattle.

Do you think these fellows are odd?  How do you think they’d view you?  It’s all a matter of perspective.  What’s one person’s trash is another’s treasure.  What’s normal to you may be off the scale abnormal to me.

What a Carrot Life Lensâ„¢ sees as synchronous systems, makes a Mountain Life Lensâ„¢ feel a migraine coming on.

What a Go Life Lensâ„¢ sees as a wonderful opportunity to be spontaneous, is reckless to a Stop Life Lensâ„¢.

Where a Journey Life Lensâ„¢ sees a wonderfully organic path, a Destination Life Lensâ„¢ sees as a pointless, waste of time.

What a Heart Life Lensâ„¢ sees as intuitively obvious, a Head Life Lensâ„¢ misses completely.
